01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

The aroma of meat slowly grilling over the net as its fat drips away is appetising whenever you stop by. At Yakiniku Fujien (焼肉 不二苑) in Kitaueno, the classic yakiniku menu includes signature salted premium tongue and kalbi enjoyed with house-made sauce. The salted tongue is moderately thick and easy to bite through, with a good balance of salt and savoury flavour. Kalbi and offal grilled with a sweet-and-spicy sauce make satisfying partners for rice.

For a more straightforward meal, set menus come with pickles, namul and salad. Options include Japanese-style kalbi, salted tongue and grilled offal sets. For a more substantial meal, there is also a set combining Japanese-style kalbi with cold noodles.

In the evening, grilled meat can be paired with hot stone-pot bibimbap or one of the soups for a comforting meal. Beer, wine and cocktails are among the drinks, and dessert offers a refreshing finish to the meal.

The calm interior retains a touch of the Showa era, with a homely, unpretentious atmosphere that suits families and small groups alike. Children’s chairs are available, and payment by credit card and various QR-code services is accepted. It is a warm, welcoming place for an everyday meal or a weekend dinner.
